Dr. Netter provides a variety of holistic mind-body medicine therapies. Mind-body medicine can be used to heal virtually any illness or disease. It helps:

  • lower blood pressure
  • pain control (This medicine improves your pain management and outcome if you are receiving steroid shots, undergoing any surgical procedure, or if you are trying to manage your pain with medications or other healing modalities. It does not interfere with any other medical regimen and, in fact, usually enhances it!)
  • decrease stress
  • improve sleep
  • boost the immune system
  • heal mental or emotional problems (depression, anxiety, grief)
  • improve memory

Each of the following mind-body healing modalities may be experienced separately or in combination during a healing treatment session.

Acupuncture
Acupuncture is an ancient medical therapy . Dr. Netter was trained in the Japanese-style acupuncture (also known here as Kiiko-style) through Harvard Medical School’s Structural Acupuncture for Physicians.

Your cells and organs receive energy via rivers or channels of energy called meridians or nadis. If the energy flowing through the channels becomes blocked then physical, mental or emotional disease may ensue. This can occur due to an unknown reason or following chemotherapy, surgery, or an injury.

The acupuncturist gently places hair-thin needles at specific acupuncture points along the meridians in the body. This allows the energy to flow so that the body’s natural healing system may function well. Illness and disease may then resolve and health is restored.

Throughout the centuries acupuncturists discovered that only treating a person’s symptoms did not often “cure” a problem or provide long-lasting relief. The Japanese-style of acupuncture addresses a patient’s health issues on several levels. Treatments begin by focusing on the underlying constitutional problems that have led to a specific clinical presentation or that block the natural healing capabilities of the body. This is followed by more specific treatments. In this style of acupuncture needles are placed only in those acupuncture points that best relieve the area of discomfort, soreness, or stiffness of areas palpated.

This style of acupuncture helps to relieve stress, boosts the immune system, and promotes overall health and wellness.

Meditation
Within each being is a central core of peace and clear wisdom. However, our busy minds often make it difficult to realize and utilize that knowledge.

Meditation brings the body and mind into a more focused, calm, and healthy state. To help you get started Dr. Netter offers one-on-one meditation instruction. You are then supported in the continuation of your meditation practice in future sessions. If you have never meditated or believe you "can't meditate" this is the perfect place to start!

Breathing Techniques
Deep breathing brings oxygen to our cells, helps us think more clearly, promotes relaxation, improves blood flow to the heart, brain, and other organs, and helps wash away toxins.

Deep breathing techniques can improve muscle strength and nerve function, decrease inflammation, and promote wound healing. They can help lower blood pressure and decrease pain. The breathing techniques offered will also help you feel calmer and happier. They support psychological balance when facing anxiety, depression, or worry. You are gently guided through these breathing exercises and taught how to use them at home and at work (or even in your car or when agitated while waiting in line at the store).

Nutrition as Mind-Body Medicine
By discovering which foods meet our health requirements, food can be used as medicine to help our body heal and make our mind calm.

You will be offered ideas for how to make tasty health-promoting, energy-boosting meals which will help decrease pain, soothe inflammation, and improve sleep. Nothing is ever "pushed on" you. This is not about dieting: it’s about living and being nourished. Dr. Netter helps you learn how to use your intuition or "gut feeling" to know what is the best food to eat (or not eat) at any one time. You might be surprised to learn what your body is actually craving!

Patients she has worked with often describe a newly experienced peace with eating and better relationship with food than ever before.
